Staffhurst Woods - September 2026

The inaugural walk of the resurrected Short Walks Group (led by Maggie, our group leader) took place in Staffhurst Woods and the weather was, fortunately, dry and mild. After the incredibly hot and dry summer we've had, the ground was still solid underfoot. Our walk started at Grants Lane car park, with a short stretch along Grants Lane - a quiet road - and then into the beautiful, mainly deciduous, woodland between Grants Lane and Red Lane.

The ten attending members had a pleasant stroll, with most pathways wide enough to accommodate walkers side-by-side, so there was plenty of opportunity to chat.

The walk was a little over 2.5 miles, stopping at some points of interest along the way. Several members went on to have lunch and toast the 'new' group's first walk at a local pub.
