Memoir Writing

About the Group:
‘Everyone is special and everyone has a story inside them.’
Your life story is unique. Write it down - whether it be for your family, friends or simply for pleasure. You may have always been thinking of writing your life story, but not felt confident enough to start.
This new group can help you plan and write your stories, taking small steps at a time. Maybe you have a diary that you would like to collate, or you might already be part way through your life story. Perhaps you just want to focus on one particular person or event.
Whatever, we (Hilary Brand and Vivien Sheffield, both with writing and publishing experience) can help you with planning and structure, but also with writing your content and creative use of pictures. The aim of the Memoir Group is to inspire and give practical help to write your life stories (or perhaps family history). We will chat about our ideas and discuss techniques and each meeting will have a set writing exercise to put what we have learned into practice.
This is not a group where criticism of writing is employed, the aim is to build confidence and help enthusiastic hobbyist writers to achieve their life story writing goals.
When and where?
We are planning to meet on 2nd or 3rd Wednesday of the month in the afternoon, but if you’d like to join but can’t make that time, do get in touch, as we are flexible and want to include everyone we can. Members take turn to host in their homes and provide tea, coffee and biscuits.
