Newsletter March 2019

Our February meeting featured a talk on Japanese Festivals and Celebrations, and was enjoyed by over 60 members (full report to appear on the website). It
was good to see so many new helpers join the rota to help set up the chairs and serve teas. It’s a great way to meet other members and make new friends. If
you’d like to help at future meetings setting up chairs, please call Francis on 01959 564495. If you’d like to help with serving teas, please call Caryl on 01732
862863.
An influx of new members has brought the total membership to 232. Many thanks to Peter and Estelle for organizing all the new member subscriptions and
chasing existing member outstanding renewals.

Edenbridge U3A existing groups

If you have not yet joined one of our many interest groups, please visit our Groups page to find out which groups are currently available.
Most groups meet monthly, some less frequently. Meetings can be held in member’s homes, rented halls and a variety of outdoor locations, all depending
on the subject matter. If you would like more details or would like to join an existing group, just visit the group’s home page to find the group contact's details. They will be delighted to hear from you.

Starting a new group

Some of our more popular groups can become oversubscribed, in which case there may be a waiting list to start a second (or sometimes third) group. In such cases additional leaders will be required. If you’d like to start a new group, (this could be on virtually any topic that
interests you) but not sure where to begin, please email our groups co‐ordinator, Brian Swift at [email protected] or call him on 01732 862332.
He will announce your idea at one of our monthly meetings and provide sign‐up sheets to gauge the level of interest. New group ideas will also be posted on the website and mentioned in the monthly newsletters. Ideas for new groups that have already been suggested include:

  • Spanish (practice)
  • Beginner’s Bridge and Canasta
  • Men who Munch
  • A 6 meeting discussion group on Alternative Healing
  • The Weekend Lunch Group could be revived if you’d like to volunteer as group leader.

Again, please contact Brian if you’re interested in getting involved.

Groups looking for new members

Existing Groups looking for more members include:

  • Current Affairs
  • Gardening
  • Life in the 1700s.

Please let the Chairman or me know if your group wants a mention next month. Despite the ‘Ask Me’ badges going AWOL in February, the buzz in the room following the request to speak to strangers as well as old friends, confirmed that we had an interesting, entertaining and useful afternoon.
Meanwhile, I look forward to seeing you at our next monthly meeting on Tuesday 26 March:

Passports, Assassins, Traitors & Spies – A fascinating talk by Martin Lloyd.

I hope you’re squeezing in as much enjoyment as time and energy permit. If you need help regarding your experience of Edenbridge U3A, please email me.
